Oboe and English Horn Lessons
Whether you're looking to learn a new solo piece, explore and perfect orchestral excerpts, or hone your technique with some etudes, I would be thrilled to help you on your musical journey.
Just starting out? Have no fear! The oboe is a beautiful and fulfilling instrument to learn. I'll get you started with everything you need to know to have a solid foundation and to have fun making music!
Reedmaking and Knife Sharpening
Oh reedmaking, the ultimate love-hate relationship. If mastered, you too will be able to make exactly the kinds of reeds you want to play on.
First time? Learn to tie, clip, and scrape!
Have experience? We'll go into all of the millions of tiny details. From choosing cane to gouging to tying and finishing — and everything in between — with enough practice you will become a pro.
Oboe Adjustment
An often overlooked part of a complete oboe education, knowing how to adjust and fix your instrument in a pinch is an incredibly useful skill.
I will often make time to cover this material with advanced student during their oboe lessons, but also offer to go over this separately.
No oboist should have to be at the mercy of fate!
My teaching philosophy
My goal is to help my students develop a love of music and a strong foundation in oboe playing.
I believe that music education should be fun and challenging, and that it should help students develop their creativity and expression.
I use a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of each student, and I encourage them to practice regularly and to attend all of their lessons. I believe that music education is an important part of a well-rounded education, and I am passionate about helping my students reach their full potential.
